Hon. Sir Maui Pomare and James Cowan. Legends of the Maori. Wellington: Fine Arts (N. Z.) Ltd., 1930. Two volumes.
The 1920s saw the first publications of Māori myth and legend aimed at the popular market, rather than having the ethnographic focus of earlier collecting and recording. Legends of the Maori bridges the earlier ethnographic collections and the lighter publications appearing around the same time. The printer of these volumes, Harry H.Tombs, set up his own printing and publishing business in 1915, after managing the Wellington branch of Whitcombe & Tombs for his father, George.
